About the Artist

Arthur Sugarman
Artist-Inventor

Arthur was born in 1929 in Manchester, England. He studied, and graduated, from the Technical College of Art at Manchester University in 1950. Arthur's work focused on the Moderns, especially Picasso, Miro, and De Kooning.

Arthur immigrated to Canada in 1957. A visit to New York to see the Guggenheim Gallery influenced his interest in art work depicting movement in the 1940's and 50's.

Arthur exhibited his works of texture and paint in Toronto until 1970. In 1970 He opened the Arthur Morton Gallery in Toronto on Yorkville Avenue and sold several large peices from the gallery as well as assisting other Candian artists.

In 1983 Arthur was awarded a Gemini for his artistic calligraphy on the certificates given to all nominated actors.

Arthur has always been a keen observer of Horse Racing and has used his observations to create these watercolour pictures.
